The goal of this research will be to develop technologies that will enable energy-efficient high-data-rate interconnect between a superconducting data processor at 4 kelvins and a room temperature control system. The program is primarily interested in components for the data egress system. A possible later program will also consider data ingress, and will integrate components into a complete data transmission system.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • Prefer Sr. Level candidate with at least 2+ years of post-degree laboratory experience
  • Technical familiarity with current research approaches to advanced electro-optic modulator development AND an understanding of the effects that very low temperatures have on the governing physics of these devices
  • Experience in performing modeling of electro-optic communication systems
  • Familiarity with room temperature interconnect and packaging of devices for electro-optic communication systems and integrated optical systems
  • Understanding of advanced communication modulation schemes including WDM and homodyne optical detection
  • Ability to proactively manage multiple concurrent tasks
  • Ability to work constructively in a team environment
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance if not already security cleared. TS/SCI with polygraph, preferred
  • Experience with general cryogenic engineering and cryogenic packaging, preferred
