Title:  Cyber Defense Scientist/Mathematician

Location:  College Park, Maryland

As a Cyber Defense Scientist/Mathematician you will work with various teams and pursue interests as a subject matter expert in the area of Cyber Defense. You will explore the latest cutting-edge technology concepts and work to implement and then deploy working resources in the Intelligence Community.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in either computer science (Masters or PhD desired), statistics (PhD desired), or mathematics (PhD desired). An equivalent degree (e.g., physics, data science) is acceptable, but the contractor must have statistics and machine learning experience (at least 3 years) and relevant course work.

Clearance:  Active TS/SCI w/Poly

Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years (during the last 8 years) developing (or refining) and testing statistical or probabilistic modeling methods, including metrics development (e.g., scoring function), error metrics, and related quantitative and qualitative model evaluation methods

An educational background or coursework in artificial intelligence or sub discipline (e.g. machine learning) is desired.

A minimum of two years of management experience in the areas of research and development management, analysis management, or a related project management.

A minimum of one year of operational experience supporting a security operations center (SOC), Computer Emergency/incident Response team, or Intelligence Community/DoD Computer Network Defense (CND) mission.

 
Technical expertise and professional work or graduate-level research experience is required in at least three of the following areas within the past five years (non-zero postgraduate paid professional work experience desired):
  1. Time series analysis
  2. Machine learning
  3. Event otologies (cyber events preferred)
  4. Research program evaluation, including development of various metrics and methods

Technical expertise and professional work or graduate-level research experience is required in five or more of the following areas within the past five years (non-zero postgraduate paid professional work experience desired):

  1. Incident response processes (use of the Cyber "kill chain" approach or similar modeling approaches preferred)
  2. Automated intrusion detection capabilities and analysis techniques
  3. Malware analysis and malware classifications
  4. Cyber-attack types and exploitation techniques
  5. Cyber-attack modeling
  6. Threat intelligence reporting and analysis
  7. Industry (FS-ISAC and US-CERT preferred) incident reporting and sharing requirements
  8. Incident sharing frameworks (STIX or TAXI preferred)
  9. Cyber incident/event classification standards (US-CERT preferred)
Proficiency with statistical analysis software packages (R or MATLAB desired) in a non-classroom environment

Ability to proactively and independently identify potential technical and programmatic risks and advise PM accordingly

Additional experience with the Intelligence Community or other government-run analysis and evaluation is desired
