Superconducting Theoretical Physicist

We are seeking an experienced and outstanding Superconducting Theoretical Research Physicist to work with a lead scientist in studying the motion of fluxon solitons in superconducting circuits as carriers of information that move under their own inertia in circuits designed for 1 or 2 solitons.   You will also support the design of circuits to study the motion of 1 soliton in a repetitive structure similar to a long Josephson junction and a Josephson transmission line.

Location:          Maryland

Clearance:       None - must be US Citizen and clearable

Education:       The minimum level of education for this position is a PhD in Theoretical Physics

Experience:  10 years’ Experience in Theoretical Physics and numerical simulation experience in superconducting circuits to perform physics research on reversible computing

Project scope: 

• Study the motion of one soliton in more complicated structures.
• In the same structures, perform fundamental studies for the interaction of two solitons to determine the practical limits of soliton scattering
• Provide design of a superconducting circuit using fluxon solitons as carriers of information that move under their own inertia.
• Perform initial studies to test the launching and detection of a soliton in the transmission line using circuits such as superconducting resonators.  Study the fundamental problems of soliton scattering in a periodic potential created by the circuit lattice and the motion of spin waves
• Study the scattering and localization of the soliton as a result of a Gaussian distribution of the critical currents
• Provide Mathematical modeling, results and conference presentations.
• 10 years’ Experience in Theoretical Physics and numerical simulation experience in superconducting circuits to perform physics research on reversible computing
